I was glad my original order was cancelled. I originally went with the cheaper find. After biting the bullet and going the luxury route, I won't ever compromise comfort for cost when it comes to sleep again. I never got the cheaper product so I can't compare. But I will say I was disappointed that it took a week before I was notified that the vendor couldn't fill my order for whatever reason. It was a 3rd party to Amazon that I won't mention because they already had like a 96% rating or something that I was weary of to begin with. But since it sold for 1/2 the cost of others, I bit. Oh well.... live and learn. I just know that this Respironics ComfortGel is awesome. Almost feels like its not even there. The snap design on the bottom straps arent the most user friendly, although it was a good thought. I just have trouble lining it up and snapping it in because you're pretty much doing it blind and by feel. I just slip it on and off while attached. Probably not recommended but it works for me. There is also the option of attaching and detaching the upper straps, but I hate having to adjust everytime. If you can get past that, the mask is super comfortable. I didn't even have to reshape the moldable blue part. Sleep is too precious to bargain with. Hope this helps.
Cheaper than through insurance!

This was exactly what I needed to replace for my CPAP. The description is accurate, and I received it in a timely manner. The company makes it to the same standard as the one I received through my insurance company at a higher price.
Most comfortable mask -- lasts about 3 months

I have found this to be the most comfortable mask out there. The main competitor to this mask are the various resmed mirage masks: Mirage Micro Nasal Mask with Headgear, Mirage Activa LT Medium, and the plain regular. I found the gel mask is much softer on the face than the silicone cushions used in the mirage series.
Another big plus for me is the way the air is vented. Most masks have some place that blows air back out. On the Micro and Activa, this venting is done in such a way that it is either blowing in my eye -- very annoying, or blowing at my spouse -- very rude! The air is cold so in the winter it is particularly disruptive. This mask does not have that problem.
My only complaint is that the mask does not have a very long life. After about 3 months, the gel starts to get mushy and you get more air leaks -- causing you to wake up frequently and have to readjust the mask.
In terms of price -- this is definitely a pretty good value relative to a lot of other types of masks. If you can afford it, I would highly recommend having an emergency backup mask. (this goes for any brand) The plastic on all masks tend to be brittle and snap easily. And of course -- when it breaks -- it tends to be as you are putting your mask on to go to sleep. This is not the type of thing that you can run out and buy in the middle of the night.
If you can't afford to have a new mask waiting in reserve, keep one of your retired masks handy so that you can at least get through the night. |
Nice mask but weak plastic hinge

this is my second one purchased of this model. I like the mask and fit but the plastic hinge that is part of the mask has a tendency to break with any pressure. I have read about this and wish it would be made stronger because the rest of the mask can last quite a while. In order to prevent breakage, unsnap the black connectors so you don't have too much pressure on the hinge before pulling off the mask. I find this too much of a pain and you could still break it by clipping and unclipping the black connectors to the mask, so I just risk it and pull off the mask gently over my head. Otherwise, great price and fit. The forehead support Sure beats the gel paks on the forehead that break off all the time.

This CPAP mask is more comfortable than others I have tried, but the materials are crap. Each one I have owned has had some part of it break in only a few months. Duct tape....
